Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) PDF Print E-mail

Contrast-generating liquid is slowly injected into the uterine cavity via a tiny catheter in the cervix. An x-ray “camera” allows the clinician to monitor movement of the contrast material into the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes. This photo illustrates an anatomically normal uterus but blockage and swelling of both fallopian tubes. The Frisco Institute for Reproductive Medicine uses a C-ARM to obtain a quality hysterosalpingogram. A C-arm is a special low-dose x-ray unit which significantly reduces the ovary’s exposure to radiation and, at the same time, provides a superior image compared with the standard radiology equipment typically used at community hospitals to perform this procedure.
