Contrast-generating liquid is slowly injected into the uterine cavity via a tiny catheter in the cervix. An x-ray “camera” allows the clinician to monitor movement of the contrast material into the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes. A C-arm is a special low-dose x-ray unit which significantly reduces the ovary’s exposure to radiation and, at the same time, provides a superior image compared with the standard radiology equipment typically used at community hospitals to perform this procedure.
